Frequently asked questions
Choosing a battery
How do I know my battery is failing?
Common signs are a slow, heavy crank when you start the car, headlights that dim at idle, a battery warning light on the dashboard, and a battery that is more than three or four years old. Some modern cars also switch off comfort features to save power. A battery test shows whether the battery or the charging system is the problem. Call or WhatsApp us to arrange one.
What is the difference between AGM and EFB batteries?
Both are built for cars with a start-stop system. EFB (enhanced flooded battery) is an upgraded version of a standard battery for cars with basic start-stop. AGM (absorbent glass mat) is built for cars with heavier electrical loads and battery energy recovery when braking. Fit the type the car came with. Fitting a standard battery where the car needs an AGM can cause electrical faults and an early failure.
Does my BMW or Mercedes need the new battery registered?
Many do. Cars with a battery sensor keep a record of the old battery and adjust charging to match. After a new battery is fitted, the car should be told, so that it charges the new battery correctly. We do this as part of fitting where the model needs it.
How do I find the right battery for my car?
Tell us the make, model and year, or use the battery finder on our website. We confirm the size, terminal layout and type before you pay. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the label on your current battery.
Does Kenyan heat shorten battery life?
Heat speeds up the ageing of any lead-acid battery. Parking in shade, keeping terminals clean and tight, and having the battery tested every six months help. See our battery care guide for more.
Delivery and fitting
Is delivery really free?
Yes, delivery is free anywhere in Kenya. In Nairobi, orders placed before 3:00 PM are delivered the same day and we fit the battery at your car at no extra charge, with a charging system check. Fitting is not included outside Nairobi.
How fast can you reach me if my car will not start?
In Nairobi our target is 30 to 45 minutes in Westlands, Karen, Runda, Lavington, Kilimani, Upper Hill and Industrial Area. Traffic and how busy we are can change this, so call us and we will give you an honest time.
Do you deliver outside Nairobi or outside Kenya?
Yes. Within Kenya, major towns such as Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret get same day courier delivery, and the rest of the country gets one to two working days. We also ship to Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia and neighbouring countries. Contact us first for the timeline and landed cost, because customs and duties apply.
Payment, returns and warranty
How can I pay?
You can pay with M-Pesa or PayPal at checkout. We never see or store your card number or M-Pesa PIN.
Can I return a battery?
Yes. You can return a new, unfitted battery within 7 working days, and we charge no restocking fee. Returns are checked in person at our shop. Full details are on the refunds and returns page.
How long is the warranty?
Varta automotive batteries carry a 15 month replacement warranty. Amaron and all other brands carry 12 months. The exact term is printed on your invoice and warranty certificate. Claims are tested in person.
Are your batteries genuine?
