When you replace a battery in a BMW (typically E60/E90 and newer), the vehicle doesn't automatically know it has a fresh power source. The Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) must be updated.
Technical Insight
Without registration, your BMW will continue to charge the new battery at the high voltage used for the old, worn-out unit, potentially cutting its life in half within months.
