Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): Explaining the -18°C Standard

July 20, 2026By VARTA German Battery Hub

Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) is a rating used in the battery industry to define a battery's ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. Specifically, it is the number of amps a 12-volt battery can deliver at -18°C for 30 seconds while maintaining at least 7.2 volts.

Technical Insight

While Nairobi is tropical, high-altitude regions in Kenya experience significant temperature drops at dawn. A high CCA ensures your vehicle ignition node remains reliable in these conditions.
